More Info
This is a research project on Virginian’s experiences with COVID-19.
Researchers from the department of psychology at UVA are interested in talking with sexual minority (LGBQ+) adults about their daily life and decision-making around COVID-19 as well as experiences with medical communities, experiences with discrimination, sources of support, and changes in their life as a result of COVID-19.
What is Involved?
Talking
It’s that simple.
This is NOT a medical consultation or clinical trial. There will be no testing, no medical forms to fill out, no proof of treatment, and no medical advice given.
We want to talk with you about your experience living through COVID-19. There are no right or wrong answers to our questions – it’s about your experience.
Time
We would like to talk with you in-depth. The conversation will last about 60 minutes.
Talking with someone you don’t know can be intimidating. All interviews are CONFIDENTIAL – meaning your name and other information about you will be changed. More information can be found in the FAQs and SIGN UP pages.

"What's In It For Me?"
This project offers a space to tell us about your experience during COVID-19. You will be contributing to research on how diverse populations are experiencing COVID-19. In addition, we offer a $40 gift card to participants (gift choice to Kroger, Walmart, or Amazon).
One Interview via Zoom/Phone
Online or by Phone
The interview will be like a conversation, and the interviewer will ask questions about your daily life, relationships, community responses to COVID-19, perceptions of COVID-19, and experiences with discrimination. We would like to talk with you in-depth. The conversation will last about 60 minutes.
Who is Involved?
Why is someone researching this?
Because it matters. Our health is so important, and is not only a result of our individual actions. It is important to ask questions about people’s lived experience with COVID-19 and the impact community responses have had on individuals often left out of the conversation.
We are psychology researchers at the University of Virginia, and this project is part of an equity grant provided by the Global Infectious Disease Institute at UVA. Learn more by clicking on the “About” tab.
Why not talk to everyone?
Communities at the focus of this study are rarely included in decisions about community responses to health. That is, adults who identify as Black or African American are disproportionately left out of conversations about community responses to health. And adults who identify as a sexual minority are rarely included in conversations about community responses to health issues. Understanding the experiences of Black and LGBQ+ adults can shed insights into the community and social factors shaping health in our Virginian communities.
Why cisgender adults only? Check out our FAQs section.
